Bravo! Encore, Joe’s Pie Shop!- The Adrienne Shelly Foundation
Last week’s Pie Place of the Week wasn’t selected only because Joe’s Pie Shop is one of the ‘stars’ of the movie Waitress, but because the film’s writer and feature actor Adrienne Shelly was such an inspiration, not just to pie makers, but to aspiring women filmmakers everywhere. Her inspiration continues through the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, a non-profit organization created in Adrienne’s memory following her tragic death on November 1, 2006. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting the artistic achievements of female actors, writers and directors working on current cinema projects, and to women who want to transition from acting into writing and directing. Adrienne’s passion in life was to make movies. Along with seeing her own projects through, she always strove to help other women obtain every possible opportunity to make their mark in film. In the spirit of this passion and vision, The Adrienne Shelly Foundation partners with the film industry’s finest academic and filmmaking institutions to assist women in their cinematic journey, through film school scholarships, production grants, finishing funds, and other invaluable resources. To find out more, go to the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, and create your own recipe for helping.
